(3) Some Theological Changes. Now let's take a few theological changes in the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION and the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION. For a more detailed examination of the theological errors in the versions, please consult CHAPTER V which follows this chapter.

(a) 1 Timothy 3:16: In 1 Timothy 3:16, this change is due to a textual change rather than a technique of translation. In the KING JAMES (and in the Greek) it says:

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.״

In the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION they say,

"Beyond question the mystery of godliness is great״

Then they say:

״HE appeared in a body."

Where is the word "God״? Who is "HE?״ To whom are they referring? They have taken the Greek word "theos" (God) and changed it into "hos" which is a relative pronoun which means "HE WHO" or "THE ONE WHO." The miracle of the Incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ is: GOD was manifest in the flesh. "HE appeared in a body" doesn't say anything about the Incarnation. Every one of us has appeared in a body; we're all in a body. We're not "GOD" appearing in a body, manifest in a body. Theologically there's error in this NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION.

What does it say in the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION? Again, this is a textual change, but also a deadly theological change.

"Great is the mystery of godliness: HE who was

revealed in the flesh ..."

Not ״GOD"--GOD is gone from the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION and the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION here.

(b) Mark 16:15: If you look at Mark 16:15, which is the Great Commission, in the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION Mark 16:15 comes in a section that has brackets around it and it says,

״Some of the oldest manuscripts omit verses 9 through 20."

Casting doubt, they take out the Great Commission of Mark 16:15.

That is doctrinal deviation and change.

What do they do in the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION? Again it comes in a section which has been separated from the first eight verses by a black line. As far as the New International translators are concerned, Mark ends at Mark 16:8. Then they print verses 9-20 and there is a footnote:

"The two most reliable early manuscripts do not have Mark 16:9-20."

In other words, Mark 16:15 ("... Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature") doesn't even exist so far as their "most reliable" manuscripts are concerned.

(c) Luke 2:33: Let's take an example in the Gospel of Luke, Luke 2:33:

"And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him."

The NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION says,

"and His FATHER and mother."

Joseph is indicated as being Jesus' "FATHER." The Virgin Birth is denied by this rendering of the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION.
